Traditional thatched roofs are built by bundling reeds such as susuki and yoshi, a craft recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. In Otari Village, Nagano, thatcher Tomonori Matsuzawa works largely by hand, building roofs designed to withstand heavy snowfall. A father of three, he continues the craft through his work and daily life.
